This project aims at providing an insulin supply closer to physiology for the treatment of type 1 diabetes through automated insulin delivery using control algorithms which modulates insulin infusion from wearable or implantable pumps based upon continuous glucose monitoring by electro-enzymatic sensors inserted in the interstitial milieu. The research team evaluates the safety and efficacy of closed-loop systems on glucose control and improvement of users’ quality of life.

The safety and efficacy of automated insulin delivery systems on blood glucose control in type 1 diabetes is assessed by clinical trials in various populations living with type 1 diabetes: children and adolescents with recent  diagnosis, people with high risk of hypoglycemia, people with high blood glucose variability.

Current projects include :

  •  Assessment of the efficacy of automated insulin therapy (‘artificial pancreas’) early initiated after diagnosis on blood glucose control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes : randomized comparison with a conventional insulin therapy for 1 year, followed by an optional extension for 1 year (AP-AT-DIAGNOSIS).
  • Improving Type 1 Diabetes Treatment Through Unobtrusive Continuous Diabetes Management Technology (MuSiC4Diabetes).
  • A bionic invisible pancreas to forget diabetes (FORGETDIABETES).

Automated insulin delivery systems : A. OmniPod 5 assessed in the project AP-AT-DIAGNOSIS ; B. System developed in the project MuSiC1Diabetes.
