Summary
Cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of death worldwide. Due to the increasing ageing of the population, their incidence will increase in the coming decades, creating a major public health problem. Among these diseases, several cardiac rhythm disorders are found in the elderly. To date, the mechanisms involved remain poorly understood. Aim: To study the consequences of ageing on cardiac activity in the mouse and lemur models, in order to develop cardioprotective strategies, delaying cardiac dysfunctions in elderly individuals. Methods: Recording (i) ECGs with telemetry and tunnel ECG systems ELISA and (ii) apoptotic proteins with Western Blot. Conclusion: In the mouse model, this thesis work has highlighted a decline in intrinsic pacemaker activity of the sinus node, particularly in the β-adrenergic response with ageing. Similarly, in the lemur model, particularly in males, this thesis work suggests sympathetic incompetence and diastolic dysfunction during ageing.
